Amber LED Lighting to Help Save Sea
Turtle Lives
Sea turtle populations are falling
due to an increasing number of
coastal development projects.
Lighting that humans use to light
their homes, condominiums, parking
lots, yachts and hotels disorients sea
turtle adults and their young. New
laws in Florida as well as efforts
in other responsible c ountries
like
Australia, New Zealand, Turkey,
Greece, Bonaire, and Costa Rica are
looking at ways to light the
way for
humans yet protect sea turtles
from
running aground
in the wrong places. Narrow
bandwidth Amber lighting is a
solution where both Humans and Sea
Turtles can
co-exist. AXIOM's
Amber LED lighting in conjunction
with Nichia of
Japan looks like a
very warm white light while at the
same time is in the perceptual
viewing range that is not
"interesting" to Sea Turtles.

White light confuses Sea Turtles and
makes them wind up in places they do
not belong. Amber lighting is
virtually invisible to Sea Turtles.
